FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The main options for shipping your vehicle overseas are via RoRo and Container (FCL) routings. RoRo is a simple drive on drive off service, whereas container shipping involves lashing and securing your vehicle inside a shipping container for sailing on regular, reputable container vessels. Both systems offer a safe and secure way of shipping vehicles internationally.

For inland destinations we typically use vehicle carriers from ports to inland destinations. This method of transport also applies for vehicles departing Gibraltar to inland destinations across the EU and further afield.

Clients who are non-EU permanent residents are eligible to visit us in Gibraltar to collect their vehicles and drive away on a Gibraltar temporary tax-free registration. Upon arrival at their final destination they must import and re-register their vehicle on diplomatic plates.

Shipper is the person or company who is usually the supplier or owner of commodities shipped. Also known as the Consignor.

Carrier is a person or company that transports goods or people for any person or company and that is responsible for any possible loss of the goods during transport.

Consignee is the party shown on the bill of lading or air waybill to whom the shipment is consigned. Need not always be the buyer.

Notify Party is the person or company to be advised by the carrier upon arrival of the goods at the destination port.

Governments can implement PSI programmes to ensure that imports comply with their regulations. Independent third party companies offering PSI services can help to ensure that equipment, components and documentation conform to contractual requirements. Countries requiring such inspections vary as do the companies who carry them out. For detailed information surrounding responsibilities, processes to follow and how a PSI can affect the delivery of your vehicle, kindly contact our Sales Team.

For vehicles delivered on-road without the need for ocean freight, our administration department will dispatch all the corresponding customs documentation plus miscellaneous certifications to assist with vehicle registration immediately upon export from Gibraltar.

Customers requiring ocean freight to final destination will receive the original Bills Of Lading together with all the other associated documentation between 5-7 days from the vessel’s departure date.

For destinations with very short transit times from Gibraltar eg North and West Africa, instead of a paper bill of lading issued to the customer, we can organize a telex release (electronic release) to expedite customs clearance and vehicle collection.

Getting your vehicle and transport documents to you as fast and securely as possible is of paramount importance to enable you to carry out your vehicle’s customs clearance and import as seamlessly as possible.
